Hot Light

Hanging Sculpture • 2012

Advised by Professor Laura Hill

Hot Light is a hanging sculpture comprised of five hot air balloons built from hardware including light bulbs, hooks, wire, chain, and sink drain covers. The project was conceived through the process of choosing a piece of thrift-store kitsch art and transforming it. A hanging three-dimensional cross-stitched hot air balloon was selected as the primary piece. By re-creating the form through an industrial and up-cycled style, the iconography of the hot air balloon transcends the material.
